Kalibo, Aklan - The gloomy and showery start of the day on March 17 did not deter the enthusiasm of the participants of the ‘Green Walk’, the launching of the Ecological Solid Waste Management Code of Kalibo. Participants started arriving as early as 6:30 in the morning. By 7:00 a m, the participating groups have difficulties finding space for themselves.
Due to the congestion in Magsaysay Park, the organizers were forced to commence the parade ten minutes ahead of schedule to accommodate the arrivals of other participating groups who kept on coming. The walk was intended to last for an hour but the tail end of the parade arrived in Magsaysay Park at 10:30.
Many were touched at this show of united support from people from various walks of life and various ages. Sad that Mayor Lachica missed this very important event in his administration where anyone who can make it to this Green Walk came, but he can appreciate the fact that in his absence the people of Kalibo still supported his dream to be fulfilled, and that is after so many years and so many administrations have come and go, the long awaited implementation of RA 9003/ Municipal Ordinance 2009-004 has now been implemented.
