Commemorative Program for the 19 Martyrs of Aklan Been Expressive

Despite the pouring rain, 83 groups from various establishments braved the weather and joined the parade of the celebration to pay tribute to our dead heroes, the 19 Martyrs The death of these Aklanon heroes according to manuscripts brought peace and order to the people of Aklan.

The celebration was headed by the municipal mayor, the Honorable William S. Lachica. The parade started at Pastrana Park and culminated in front of the 19 Martyrs Shrine, where all the dignitaries assembled to show their homage.

One of the speakers mentioned that in every Filipino, there is a hero within and though we pay tribute to our dead heroes we must also acknowledge ourselves as heroes. It was an entertaining day despite the weather with the re-enactment beautifully played by all the actors and actresses who took part.

After the presentation the guests were billeted to Ati-atihan hotel for a sumptuous luncheon. The day did not end there.

In the evening, with a bit of trepidation the performers still came to portray their parts and how fortunate for them that the weather held after the wet start. Beautiful clothes were shown and the models were brilliant, headed by the so called wife of General Francisco del Castillo, played by Maribel Maribojo of the mayor’s office. Brilliant actress and Gen. Del Castillo? Boy, isn’t he gorgeous? His name is John Brian de la Rosa from the Regional Science High School.

The clothes in those days were really impractical but lovely. Obviously the success of the evening was due to the artistic skills and talents of none other than the Chairman of KASAFI, Mr. Albert MeƱez. I salute you, sir for making the past a real one in the eyes of our young generation. Good luck for next year./TE
