By: Alice B. Rebuelta “Youths are the hope of our fatherland” as Dr. Jose Rizal once said. In crucial times such as these that we are now experiencing, now our youths play a very critical role in nation building.
Our aim is to develop our youth’s potential, provide our youths with some opportunities to ‘learn by doing’, to enhance productivity and self-reliance through gainful projects, to instill the spirit of volunteerism, to encourage the cooperation and dignity of labor and to enable our youths to use their time, talents and energies wisely. The Estancia 4-H Club was established on January 3, 2010 at Barangay Estancia, Kalibo, Aklan. The 4-H Club of the Philippines is one of the rural based organizations supported by the Department of Agriculture, the Agricultural Training Institute and the Local Government Units. An organization of rural youths ages 15-30 years old, single, either Out of School or In School that are willing to give emphasis to community-based projects in agriculture and homemaking.
Estancia 4- H Club officers and members have undergone a series of training such as Values Re- Orientation, Leadership and Team building and Swine Management. They have also participated in the provincial and regional congresses held at ASU, Banga and Iloilo. Cendrix Masangya, the club’s president, won first place in the Provincial Quiz Bee last January 29, 2011 and was Aklan’s contestant during the regional congress held at Punta Villa, Iloilo last February 25-27, 2011 and ranked 3rd.
The Estancia 4-H Club was a recipient of Php50,000.00 community project last June 2010 from the DA-ATI. They started a swine fattening project a with a turn-over ceremony last August 29,2010, with a total of 23 youth recipients. It is an ongoing project and the youths are on its second cycle of implementation.
With Estancia 4-H Club’s inspiring performance, other barangays of Kalibo have organized their own clubs, too./TE
