Lenten Recollection to ARC Prisoners

It was a really fulfilling day for the daughters of Immaculate, Diocese of Kalibo. The four vicariates that composed the diocese worked hand in hand with the chairperson, committee on assistance to prisoners’ families and their victims to give the inmates of the Aklan Rehabilitation Center a Lenten recollection. The day started with a Eucharistic celebration officiated by Rev. Fr. Peter Kim I. de la cruz, spiritual director of the Sto. Niño de Kalibo circle. Rev. Fr. Jonnifer I. Indadaño, Chancellor of the Diocese of Kalibo gave an enlightening talk on Sufferings and pain as means to achieve positive gains and spiritual peace. Sis Billie Calizo-Quimpo Vicarial Regent, Mary the Queen and Vice Governor of Aklan gave an inspiring message and saw the opportunity to help improve the conditions of the Provincial Jail to benefit the inmates. Sis Jean Velarde, Past Int’l Regent also gave a short message and very welcomed news that she had solicited a scholarship grant to benefit a deserving dependent of an inmate. Sis Baby Acevedo, Regional Representative gave a reflection, and Sis Inday Ibao talked about the “Blessed Virgin Mary and The Rosary”. She distributed rosary beads and guide on how to pray the rosary for the inmates.

Lunch was distributed courtesy of Sis Billie Calizo-Quimpo and merienda offered by sis Medela Solanoy, Diocesan Chairperson for Welfare of Prisoners, their Families and Victims. Gift bags which contained the inmate’s basic needs like laundry and bath soap, toothbrush, toothpaste, noodles, t-shirt, biscuits, etc. were distributed to each inmate courtesy of the different circles through their circle regents

It was a spiritually filled Lenten offering where our DMI Sisters reached out to a good number of 245 inmates and brought them joy, hope and the chance to get closer to feel God’s presence and great love./TE
