Powerful Strategies for Staying Safe/ Planning and Setting Boundaries

Push HandsTechnique

Use this technique if someone gets in your space, threatens you, or grabs you. Pushing an attacker out of your space demonstrates that you are serious. He may get defensive and say something like,” Hey what’s wrong with you?” Simply respond by saying “it is not good to grab me like that.”

•With your palms flat, place your hands on the attacker’s chest and shove. If he has grabbed you, use your free hand to push his arms away.
•Yell, “No!” or “back off!”
•Commit to the push- and mean it.
•Walk away if you can do safely.

Advisory: Using a physical technique like this one can sometimes escalate the tension, and your attacker may try to grab you again. That does not mean you should not use a physical technique, only that you should be prepared. Remember: You are not to blame for the situation. The person attacking you is to be blame./TE
