SAN JOSE, Antique – The Division of Antique is ready to implement K+12 or the enhanced basic education program of the Department of Education.
Asst. Schools Division Superintendent Victor de Gracia said during the radio program of the Philippine Information Agency that all elementary and high schools in the province are set for the gradual implementation of this program.
Schools in the division are being prepared during the summer months. Specifically, construction and rehabilitation of school facilities are being readied in time for the school opening in June.
Some schools are constructing makeshift classrooms to accommodate additional classes especially at the kindergarten level which is set to open this school year.
This program, according to de Gracia, involves kindergarten (for K), six years of elementary education, four years of junior high school (Grade 7-10) and two years of senior high school (Grade 11-12).
Aside from universal implementation of kinder classes for 5-year old pupils, the interesting feature of this program, he said, is the specialized curriculum for senior high school level that will deal with skills development. This will prepare the students for employment after graduation.
De Gracia assured parents that this program will be for the good of their children. Instead of taking it as extra expenses it can be viewed as savings of another two years since the basic education will be sponsored by government, he said.
After senior high school, the students can opt to proceed to college education or find employment or become entrepreneurs because they will by then already have the necessary skills acquired in their basic education, he explained.
Private schools are also covered by the program.
As a landmark program of the Aquino administration and a major reform in educational system, Department of Education enjoined the support of stakeholders in education. (PIA)TE
