“Deep Purple in Rock”
Deep Purple is about as heavy as it gets. If your passion is for full on Rock and Roll, then this is certainly an album that you will enjoy. Recorded in 1969, this album played a pivotal role in the evolution of Rock music, and many groups which later followed would be influenced by this band’s distinctive style.
The stated aim of this classic band as ‘to make as much noise as possible,’ and whilst making the album, they ensured that the volume needle on the recording consoles stayed hard over into the red. The resulting sound you can judge for yourself.
The album kicks off with ‘Speed King’, a momentous track which immediately sets the pace and gives some indication of what is to follow. Tracks such as ‘Flight of the Rat’, ‘Into the Fire’, and ‘Hard Loving Man’ maintain the pace, whilst ‘Child in Time’ adds a more mellow dimension to the album. The album draws to a climax with the final track ‘Black Night’, which rapidly ascended the charts when first released as a single.
Should you venture to acquire this album then my advice to you is to wear a seat belt whenever you listen to it!/TE
