Kalibo, Aklan- During the 19th Regular Session of the Sangguniang Panlalawigan of Aklan, a resolution was passed congratulating and commending the Aklanon athletes who bagged gold, silver and bronze medals during the 2011 Palarong Pambansa held at the Jose Rizal Memorial Sports Complex, Dapitan City, Zamboanga Del Norte on May 8-14, 2011.
Resolution No.2011-133 is a general commendation for ten Aklanon athletes, their coaches, and their respective schools during the 2011 Palarong Pambansa.
The Aklan athletic delegation has won a total of 8 gold medals in the different sporting events during the 2011 Palarong Pambansa in Dapitan City; 7 of them were won by the elementary school athletes and 1 was bagged by an athlete from a secondary school in Aklan. Aklan also won a total of 4 silver medals, 2 of them were won by elementary school athletes and 2 by the secondary school athletes.
The Aklan athletic delegation also won 2 bronze medals by elementary school athletes;
The following are the Aklanon athletes during the event:
JASMIN C. TAYCO of Navitas Elementary School, Numancia, Aklan bagged 4 gold medals in Long Jump, High Jump, 4x100 Meter Relay and 4x400 Meter Relay and 1 silver medal in the 100 Meter Dash and adjudged as the Highest Pointer in athletics in elementary girls category;
CYRA SHANE T. CASIDSID of Malay Elementary School, Malay Aklan also won 2 gold medals in the 200 Meter Dash and 4x100 Meter Relay and 4th Place in 100 Meter Hurdles;
ANJELICA M. DE JOSEF of Malinao Elementary School, Malinao, Aklan got 1 gold medal in 4x400 Meter Relay, 1 silver medal in 800 Meter Run, 1 bronze medal in 1500 Meter Run and 4th Place in 400 Meter Run;
HANS ERICH T. YU of Northwestern Visayan Colleges, Kalibo, Aklan was part of the Western Visayas secondary boys volleyball team which emerged champion in the event, thus, claimed the gold medal;
RAYMUND M. SALMINGO of Union National High School, Nabas, Aklan also won 1 silver medal in the 45 Kg. Boxing in the secondary level;
CYRENE JOY B. MAGBANUA of Buruanga Vocational School, Buruanga, Aklan also bagged 1 silver medal in Long Jump, secondary level;
ADA BEATRIZ A. ORTEGA of Wadeford School, Kalibo, Aklan also won 1 bronze medal in IM Relay in swimming, elementary level;
ISABELLA SELYN IBARRETA of Starglow, Kalibo, Aklan a finalist of 50M Butterfly and 100M Butterfly in swimming, elementary level;
REYNEL R. NIøOFRANCO of Madalag Elementary School, Madalag, Aklan a quarterfinalist in elementary boys volleyball; and
VINCE N. MONTAøIA of Malinao Elementary School, Malinao, Aklan a quarterfinalist in 30kg boxing, elementary level
“These Aklan athletic delegation symbolize the very finest examples or role models to their schools, families and communities, and these students inspire other young people to work hard,” Legaspi said
“It is fitting that the members of this August Chamber should salute the winners of the Aklan athletic delegation who, through their extraordinary efforts, have achieved a premier level of success in competition, and have distinguished themselves as true champions of whom we all can be proud of,” Legaspi further added./TE
