Third Eye Blind
‘Third Eye Blind’
Third Eye Blind (3eb) was a band that slowly rose to recognition during the 90’s. Known for their soulful melody and based-on-circumstance lyrics, 3eb was a band that inspired a lot of bands currently popular today. Their first album, self-titled ‘Third Eye Blind’ arguably their finest, arrived on the 90’s music scene like a hurricane, and could be considered the song of the youths of that era.
In ‘Narcolepsy’, the lead vocals, Stephan Jenkins, sang about an experience he had once that somewhat resembles a daydream happening in real life. The song is run about in an electrifying crescendo of wailing guitar riffing that ends in a slow descent of melancholy.
The most popular song of the album, ’Semi-charmed Life’, is ran in an upbeat percussion tempo with an equally energetic guitar chording. It conveys a message of wanting to have a better life in spite of life’s difficulties.
My favorite song of the lot is ‘Motorcycle Drive-by’. Unlike other songs I have heard before, this one seems to run about as a story instead of a poem. It starts out in a melancholic sway, which ends up in an almost angry finale; a song reincarnation of a love story with a tragic ending.
3eb’s first album is considered one of those few rare gems in the 90’s music scene, for almost all the song within are made with true artistic intentions. Rock music that touches the soul; that is Third Eye Blind./TE
