PPP means government no longer building “Kastilyong Buhangin”

KALIBO, Aklan -Under the Public Private Partnership (PPP), the government will no longer build “Kastilyong Buhangin.”

This assurance came from President Aquino when he visited Aklan June 25 to inaugurate the new terminal building of the Caticlan Airport in Malay, Aklan being operated by TransAire Development Holdings Corporation.

Acknowledging that the development of Caticlan Airport by TransAire is a fine example of PPP, the President hailed the PPP as a mechanism for a favorable partnership between the government sector and the private sector in order to help each Filipino citizen.

The President said these projects will provide jobs to jobless fathers as well as help build schools and deliver other social services.

The development by TransAire, a subsidiary corporation of San Miguel is seen to increase the number of airplanes landing in Caticlan Airport at daytime and even at nighttime.

Records at the Provincial Tourism Office here showed that last year, Boracay Island had almost 700,000 visitor arrivals.

With the development of the Caticlan Airport, TransAire and the SMC foresee an arrival of 3 million passengers in two year’s time.
