KALIBO, Aklan - The inauguration of the new terminal building at the Caticlan Airport will open big doors to opportunities, according to President Benigno S. Aquino III.

Speaking after ceremonially lighting the Caticlan Airport Scale Model upon his arrival at the Caticlan Airport June 25, President Aquino, who was on his first visit to the province, also emphasized that the new airport terminal will not only benefit foreign tourists and businessmen but will sustain the tourism growth of the country.

The inauguration of the terminal will also mean a stronger and steadier economy as well as more job opportunities for the people, President Aquino said.

With the modern amenities of the airport terminal building now being operated by the TransAire Development Holdings Corporation, a subsidiary of San Miguel Corporation (SMC), like good air conditioning system, comfortable working areas, high tech baggage carousel, state of the art X-Ray machine and modern information screens, the President said the quality of the Caticlan Airport could not be far behind from other modern airports.

The nighttime landing facilities which will also be installed in the airport will enable planes to land even at night.

This is seen to increase the number of arriving passengers in Caticlan by to 30%, as revealed earlier by a San Miguel Corporation (SMC) who gave a vision presentation of the Caticlan Airport Development Plan.

The improvements, coupled by the Filipinos’ brand of warm welcome will give more reasons for the visitors to come again and experience the country’s islands, President Aquino emphasized.

The President also hailed the SMC for embarking on the development of the airport, which he said is a fine example of Public Private Partnership (PPP) – through projects that will also provide jobs, build schools and solve other problems burdening the people so the next generation will no longer inherit these problems.

“Patuloy tayong magkapit-kamay sa paglalakbay tungo sa pagbabago at sa maliwanag nating bukas”, President Aquino said told the guests who gathered at the second floor of the terminal building in ending his speech.

Joining the President on his first visit to Aklan were members of his Cabinet – DOTC Secretary Mar Roxas and DOF Secretary Cesar Purisima, while SMC President Ramon S. Ang, Aklan Governor Carlito S. Marquez and Malay Mayor John Yap welcomed him and his party upon arrival.(PIA)/TE
