Soft Drinks in School


Role of Physicians


1. Physicians should routinely ask their patients about soft drink consumption.
2. Physician should include education on soft drink consumption as part of their anticipatory guidance.
3. Physicians should be strong advocates against the sale of soft drinks in schools.

Role of Parents


1. Parents should cease consumption of soft drinks.
2. Parents should stock their homes with healthy foods and beverages and introduce milk and healthy beverages early.
3. Soft drinks should not be available at home.

Role of School administrators


School administrators should take the initiative in strictly prohibiting the sale of soft drinks inside the school premises.


School administrators should make safe drinking water available to all students.

School administrators should prohibit the consumption and advertisement of soft drinks within school compound.


School canteens should offer nutritious and affordable beverages such as milk and fresh fruit juices.


The school should give quarterly informal lectures to students and school employees on good nutrition.


School administrations should stop the usual practice of soliciting funds from soft drinks manufacturers./TE
