Exercise for sound mind and body, CSC tells civil servants

KALIBO, Aklan - The Civil Service Commission (CSC) is urging all civil servants to exercise in order to develop “sound mind in healthy body.”

According to Evelyn Ejar, Director II of the CSC Field Office here, the call for government employees to exercise regularly is embodied in CSC Circular No. 8 reiterating the importance of exercise in order to develop a healthy and alert workforce.

The circular stipulates that a government agency should devote an hour every week for exercise, and twenty (20) minutes daily for breathing and stretching exercise.

“The exercises will help release tensions in our body and make us relax. Our jobs as government workers are also stressful,” Ejar said.

In Aklan, Ejar said the CSC already initiated the practice last week at the office space vacated by the Treasurer’s Office, which was participated in by other government agencies holding office in the same area.

The CSC is hoping the practice will be sustained in the province, and that more offices will join the camapaign.

Doing regularly exercise, considered a healthy lifestyle practice, is also seen to prevent, control and reduce the risk of communicable diseases.

On May 15 of this year, the province of Aklan also joined the nationwide “Ehersisyong Pangkalusugan” activity which was led by no less than President Benigno S. Aquino III in Manila.

The event here was held at the Goding Ramos Park and joined by the Philippine Army, Philippine National Police, Provincial Health Office, Department of Health, Civil Service Commission, Provincial Government of Aklan, other government agencies and non-government organizations. (PIA)/TE
