KALIBO, Aklan - The Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) has identified 2 separate dates and 2 separate sites to launch the National Greening Program (NGP).
According to the DENR, the launching of the NGP by the Community Environment and Natural Resources Office (CENRO) in Kalibo will be held June 17 while that of CENRO-Boracay will be on June 21, 2011.
CENRO-Kalibo’s launching site is the Community-Based Forestry Management (CBFM) Mangrove Area Project of Kalibo Save the Mangrove in Barangay New Buswang and Andagao, Kalibo.
The program, according to DENR-Aklan will be held at the Lambingan Beach. The planting site is accessible by hiking of around 5 minutes from the converging areas reachable by all types of vehicles.
The launching site of CENRO-Boracay, on the other hand, is the CBFM Project Area in Barangay Pudiot, Tangalan.
The program will be held at Pudiot Elementary School at the barangay proper. The planting site is accessible by hiking of around 30 minutes from the converging area reachable by all types of vehicles.
he National Greening Program is a government priority program of President Aquino pursuant to Section 2.6 of Executive Order No. 23 and EO 26, both series of 2011.
DENR Memorandum Circular No. 2011-01 dated March 8, 2011, meanwhile, sets the guidelines and procedures in the implementation of the NGP.
The program targets to grow at least 1.5 billion trees in 1.5 million hectares of lands of the public domain for a period of six years from 2011 to 2016, or 250,000 hectares per year.
The program is seen to help reduce poverty among upland and lowland poor households, indigenous peoples, and in coastal and urban areas.
The launching of the NGP will be spearheaded by DENR-Aklan in partnership with the Department of Agriculture (DA), Department of Agrarian Reform (DAR), Department of Education(DepEd), Commission on Higher Education(CHED), local government units (Province of Aklan, Municipalities of Kalibo and Tangalan) , Department of Health(DOH), Department of Transportation and Communication (DOTC), Department of National Defense (DND), Department of Justice (DOJ), Department of Science and Technology (DOST), the National Commission on Indigenous People (NCIP), Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA) and all other government agencies, instrumentalities and Government-Owned and Controlled Corporations (GOCCs).
