Kalibo, Aklan- Provincial Board Member Raymar A. Rebaldo proposed an ordinance creating the Aklan Historiographical Commission to reconstruct the Aklanon past from written records, oral history, cultural artifacts and folk traditions, from the dawn of its civilization to contemporary time.
A committee hearing on the proposal was recently held, and was attended by writers and members of the Aklan Historical society and other historians, namely: Benny O. Tirazona, Herbert T. Tabares, Hon. Soviet Dela Cruz, Ms. Chita Heap, Ms. Sumra C. Rojo, Ms. India C. Legaspi and Ms. Marcela R. Tinagan.
Rebaldo proposed that Aklanon historians should re-draft the Aklanon historiography; instead of being dry and dull, it must be lively and robust, to inspire reading, understanding and to be remembered by the next generation.
Rebaldo said that the Province of Aklan is one of the oldest provinces in the country, tracing its establishment from the Barter of Panay early in the 13th century.
Rebaldo further stated that such facts are mentioned in the history of our nation, but there is no formal historiography in the province that may be presented to the whole world.
Meanwhile, the committee, with further consultation with the Aklan Historical Society, concurred to conduct a workshop through the Aklan Historical Society and the NCCA to ensure a timely, relevant and appropriate ordinance./TE
