Bacolod City - The celebration in the province ushering the New Year was relatively peaceful and no recorded violation of holiday ceasefire according to the Philippine Army.
303rd Brigade Commander Jonas Sumagaysay in an interview over a local radio station said that the NPA to this date (January 1) honored the agreement between NDF and GRP.
“We are hopeful that this will be maintained until January 3, 2011 as agreed,” Sumagaysay said in the same interview.
No personnel of the Armed Forces in the Philippines in Negros Occidental was recorded to have fired their firearms during the New Year.
Meanwhile, Fr. Aniceto Buenafe of the Social Action Center of the Diocese of Bacolod calls on the people to follow the will of God this 2011.
As of January 1, there were six firecracker related injuries reported while there are six victims of road mishaps. (PIA/EAD)/TE
