Australia is currently suffering from it’s worst flooding in living memory after hurricane Tarsha unleashed an unprecedented amount of rainfall which flooded an area the size of Germany and France put together. The disaster area which is of almost biblical proportions, stretches from central Victoria to Queensland.
Water levels are fifteen meters high in places with some houses being completely submerged. In Queensland the Fitzroy River is still rising, and the current water level is expected to rise by another meter in the next few days. Twenty two cities have been swamped so far, and the damage caused is expected to run into billions of Australian dollars.

The country has recently suffered from consecutive years of drought with farmers finding it hard if not impossible to make a living. This year many farmers were compelled to borrow money from the bank in order to plant their crop.
At first it seemed that their investment had paid off since this years harvest promised to provide a record yield. Then, at the point of harvest, the rains began to fall, flooding fields and submerging the crop. More rain is forecast and it seems that there is no end in sight to Australia’s current sorrow./TE
