BACOLOD CITY - The local government of Bacolod City recently held the groundbreaking of its Sanitary Landfill project at Purok Acacia in Brgy. Felisa.
Top city government officials headed by Mayor Evelio Leonardia, Vice Mayor Thaddy Sayson and members of the Sangguniang Panlungsod graced the groundbreaking ceremony and time capsule laying for the project.
The Mayor read a DENR statement about the chosen site stating that the area was strategic and acceptable, physically excellent, fit for a sanitary landfill, safe from flooding and will not contaminate the drinking water in the barangay and the environment.
DENR issued the Environmental Compliance Certificate ECC-R6-1012-362-9200 to the city as a requirement for the Sanitary Landfill Project.
“Let us continue to move forward so we can keep Bacolod surging ahead,” Leonardia said.
Vice Mayor Jude Thaddeus Sayson, who is from Brgy. Felisa said that he is happy that the ECC has finally been issued and that he hopes the project will get a hundred percent cooperation from other barangays as well.
“The bottom-line is not politics., but that the project is for Bacolod, and it is important that we do our share in ensuring a clean Bacolod,” he said.A time-capsule was laid in the site which contained the ECC Certificate, the map, total plan and Deed of Sale for the sanitary landfill.
ABC President-elect Mona Dia Jardin of Brgy. Felisa gracefully accommodated the city officials and lauded the project that her barangay will host.
AL SALAZAR Construction represented by Atty. Andy Santiago was commissioned to construct the 2.7 hectare sanitary landfill for the phase 1.
The initial phase can address the city’s 200-ton daily waste disposed. Total project cost for the 1st phase is P32-million while 2nd phase will cover a 3.2-hectare area. (PIA/EAD)/TE
