Boracay Island – The Department of Energy (DOE) is not recommending the use of any energy-saving device.
This is the clarification made by the DOE in answer to a media query as to the effectivity of energy saving devices during the media forum held at Boracay Regency Resort and Convention, Balabag, Malay, Aklan recently.
The forum was attended by the Aklan media with panelists coming from the DOE and Aklan Electric Cooperative Inc. (AKELCO).
DOE Assistant Secretary Leonilo B. Lariosa led the DOE panelists.
According to Engr. Kristian Carlo Victorio, DOE Science Research Analyst, DOE doesn’t recommend any energy saving devices, as these also consume electricity.
For his part, Engr. Ricardo Ileto said an energy-saving device cannot reduce energy because it also passes through the kilowatt meter.
Asked on the specific authority that could stop selling of power savers, ASEC Lariosa said local government units (LGUs) could control this, as these offices issue permits for any types of business.
“If people selling these gadgets cannot show permits, people should not patronize or buy these gadgets”, ASEC Lariosa said.
The DOE was in Boracay Island recently to conduct a Seminar-Workshop on Energy Efficiency and Conservation for Hotels, Resorts and Restaurants and a media forum with the local media.
The activities, ASEC Lariosa said in his opening statement in the media forum, serve as kick-off activities for a series of activities Energy Efficiency and Conservation (EE&C) among major energy users.
The activities were also conducted in celebration of National Energy Consciousness Month this December, with the theme “Towards Energy Access for More Through Energy Efficiency and Conservation.”
Other panelists during the media forum were Engr. Maximino G. Marquez, Sr. Science Research Specialist, Engr. Allan B. Bacudo, Sr. ScienceResearch Specialist and Engr. Magdaleno M. Baclay, Jr., Sr. Science Specialist, all of DOE. (PIA/VGV)/TE
