Kalibo, Aklan — Boracay Island’s tourist arrivals in a span of 11 months (January to November 2010) reached 712,652, which generated a total of P13,120,931,149.20, according to a report of the Provincial Tourism Office here, which in turn was reported by Governor Carlito S. Marquez during his Governor’s Report aired over a local radio station here.
Marquez reported that compared with last year’s record for the same period, there is an increase of 20.27%. Translated to figures, 120,095 more visitors came to the island.
The month of November this year posted 51,392 in tourist arrivals. An increase of 15.16% was noted, as last year’s arrival for the same month was recorded at 44,626.
Meanwhile, the jetty ports in Caticlan and Cagban and the Passenger Terminal in Caticlan were able to collect a total of P102,350,191.55 from January 1 to November 30 of this year.
Compared to last year, an increase of 25.06% was posted this year. Last year’s collection for the same period reached P74,505,630.98.
This year, the month which registered the highest collection was April, with P14,651,233.73, while May came in second with P13,536,056.38. March is the month with the third highest collection with P10,363,962.60. On the other hand, October registered the lowest collection, with P7,274,687.80.
Aklan officials anticipate that the month of December will bring in a big number of tourists and generate additional collections, with the celebration of Christmas and longer weekends brought by the holiday economics.(PIA/VGV)/TE
