Four award categories of the Soroptimist International of the Americas, (SIA) was won by the Soroptimist International of the Philippines Region for the first time in the history. Called the Renaissance Award, covers program, membership, fund raising and public awareness.
During the SIA convention held in San Francisco, Governor Carmen Araneta Flor received the best region award for the Philippines from SIA President Cathy Standiford.
Countries under SIA were as follows: USA with four regions; Japan with four regions, Canada, Mexico, Taiwan, Brazil, Peru and other countries and territories. SIA is 55% of the entire Soroptimist world.
Together with present Governor Paloma B. Papa, Federation Director Linabelle Villarica, Governor-Elect Minda Garcia with 66 other delegates from the Philippines, the delegation stood proud and tall.
Following the vision of one- impact project for one club, the chartering of 10 clubs adding 30 new Laurel Society members and outstanding public awareness SI Philippines Region was adjudged the “Best Region” of SIA.
Soroptimist continues to improve the lives of women and girls in local communities and throughout the world. Lastly, through its adopt-a barangay project and the adopt-a –women and children desk project it continues to make a difference in the Philippines.
The Philippines has eighty clubs from Ilocos Norte to Jolo. It has 2,000 members composed of outstanding professional and businesswomen contributing their time, talent and treasure to make this country a better place to be.
