There were about fifty handicapped children who availed of the free medical check-up and medicines from the volunteer doctors. The Pedia Day is one of the many lined up activities in celebration of the National Medicine Week of the Philippine Medical Society and Philippine Medical Association from Sept. 19 to 25, 2010.
STAC Center Kalibo has 357 children with disabilities from age 0 to 14. The center offers free Rehabilitation services like Physical Therapy and Occupational Therapy with Special Education (SPED) sessions, Parents’ Training Program (PTP), Barangay Health Workers (BHW) Training and other related services like Assistive Devices (wheelchairs, stroller, cribs, crutches, walker, etc), Medicines such as vitamins, paracetamol, cough syrups, anti-asthma, and others. Referral Services (medical/surgical), Family Support Programs like Services for Children with Disabilities (CWDs), Services for the Vulnerable Families of CWDs, and Special Support Services.
The success of STAC is through the competent and passionate leadership of Ms. Joanna Tay-Meren, the Manager and Physical Therapist of the center. STAC was established in October 6, 2006.

Present during the free medical check up were the active members of the Aklan Medical Society Pediatricians - Dr. Felma Dela Cruz, Dr. Zelda Tolentino, Dr. Agnes Tabanar, Dr. Beatriz Diel, Dr. Ma. Reina Carpio, headed by the PMA Western Visayas Governor – Dr. Cynthia C. Dela Cruz. Also present were members of Kool Earth, President Chita Dela Cruz-Heap and club Secretary - Ms. Megs Lunn, also representing the Rotary Club of Roxas.
The Medicine Week started with a Fun Walk to Zero Smoking last Sept. 19 and the free anti-rabies dog vaccination at Pastrana Park, Kalibo, Aklan. Earlier on the day the medical mission, the members of Aklan Medical Society and the Local Government Unit of Kalibo, headed by the Mayor - Hon. William S. Lachica, jointly signed a Memorandum of Understanding in support to the Millenium Goals 2015 of the Department of Health. /TE
