Kalibo, Aklan - More than a hundred applications from Aklan and nearby provinces were received by the Philippine Overseas Employment Administration (POEA) and the Saudi Recruitment Office (SRO) when the group came here recently to meet with the applicants, hold a briefing and conduct a Pre-Employment Orientation Seminar (PEOS).
The POEA officials came from Manila and Iloilo City led by Director Felixberta N. Romero, Government Placement Branch, OIC Director Ma. Rhea Glynda Calantas and Mila Teneso, Labor Registration Officer from Region 6 and Linda Sindayen from Saudi Recruitment Office.
Vivian R. Solano, Provincial Employment Service Office (PESO) Aklan Manager said most applicants were nurses from the Dr. Rafael S. Tumbokon Memorial Hospital, St. Gabriel Hospital, Aklan Cooperative Mission Hospital, Bacolod Adventist Medical Center and Western Visayas Medical Centers.
“Applicants also included medical technologists, midwives, Physical Therapists and dental assistants. Some who have already worked abroad and wanted to return also applied,” Solano said.
In the briefing, Romero told the advantages of working in a government hospital because besides the good pay, the applicant can work in Saudi Arabia without placement fees. Qualified applicants will also have free housing and a one-year contract which could be renewed.
Romero stressed, however, that there are rules to be followed, as the culture and religion in Saudi Arabia is different. Director Calantas, on the other hand, reminded the applicants during the Pre-Employment Seminar that they should be strong and should not get easily homesick.
She also reminded applicants not to ever give their passports to their employers or to anybody else, because if they lose it, they would not be able to come home.
Those who qualified were advised to wait for calls or announcements from the POEA and PESO-Aklan for their Final Interview with the Panel of Employers from the Ministry of Health of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. PIA/VGV/TE
