Dear Mayor Lachica’
Greetings from Kool Earth!
Kool Earth (the Environmental Advocates Group of Aklan) foresee a cleaner, greener, and more healthy environment through its mission to commit, support and p
Therefore , we urge the Office of the Mayor, Hon. William S. Lachica and the Sangguniang Bayan Members, the committee in charge of the Solid Waste Management and other environmental concerns, to pursue the implementation of Municipal Ordinance 2009-004, otherwise known as the Ecological Solid Waste Management Code of Kalibo.
With concerns about disaster risk management and other environmental risks now in evidence in our neighboring towns and provinces, not withstanding concerns about Global Warming, your office should implement this ordinance without further delay. Those who litter should be apprehended and held to account, together with those who do not follow the proper segregation of waste materials, or manage solid waste recyclable materials. It is high time that under your leadership this ordinance should now become a reality.
We not only urge you to implement the SWM code of Kalibo, but we urge also that the town’s government should be vigilant in strengthening the following:
* Implement the Solid Waste Management Code with penalties;
* Enforce anti- littering and other environmental laws and ordinances, and further discipline residents, visitors, workers, and students alike;
* Conduct a consistent and comprehensive educational campaign on the proper segregation of waste materials (Kool Earth will help);
* Increase the visibility of billboards, streamers, and promote community education campaigns;
* Appoint a garbage pick up area in selected subdivisions, streets, and
barangays;
* Inform the public of the system and schedule of collections in their areas;
* Encourage business establishments to avoid the use of plastic packaging.
We look forward to a better Kalibo and a progressive Amazing Aklan!
Very truly yours,

P.S. We likewise call upon our fellow Aklanons to be vigilant and sensitive in the undertaking to make Kalibo and other neighboring towns cleaner and healthier. In support of the province’s disaster risk management campaign during this typhoon season, we must discipline ourselves as part of our contribution to Mother Nature.
We call on members of the community to do their share in helping to maintain cleanliness in our environment.
Our government needs us. We cannot just sit and complain.We also have the chance to do our share by starting small- from your homes, to your neighbors, to your communities and to the world.
Thank you.
