In response to the letter of enquiry sent by the Western Visayas The Explorer to the office of the Regional Director in IIoilo concerning the Aklan River Project, a copy of which appeared in our October 13th issue, the following reply dated October 19th was recently received.

DREDGING OF AKLAN RIVER
1. Amount provided by the central government for this project: Php 100 M
2. Date that this amount was transferred: May 29, 2009
3. To what account was the money transferred: DPWH, Regional Office VI
4. Name of person in charge of the account: Aurora Tings on, Chief, Comptrollership, Finance And Management Division, DPWH, Regional Office VI
5. Scope project – i.e. length of river to be dredged/between which points: Sta. 2 = 600 –Sta. 3 + 025
6. Current status od dredging operation – i.e. How many cubic meters already dredged: The project is On-going. Total volume dredged: 170,000.00 cu. M.
7. Proposed depth of excavation: Varies from 1.0 to 3.0 m.
8. Proposed width of excavation: Varies from 300 to 500 m.
9. Estimated volume/cubic meters of silt to be removed: 210,700 cu. M.
10. Length of river already dredged: 320 m.
11. Date that work was commenced: March 1, 2010
12. Number of days of dredging so far undertaken: 220 Calendar Days (As of October 14, 2010)
13. Estimated date of completion: November 30, 2010

19. Measures taken in order top verify volume of dredged materials removed: Length, width and depth of excavation are measured daily. Measuring rod is attached to the dredging equipment; river bed elevation is measures before and after dredging at every section.
Proposed usage/current location of soil already removed: Soil removed was used to level the top of low lying areas with the designed river bed elevation and used to partially reclaim the eroded land at sitio Liboton, Brgy. Bakhaw Norte, Kalibo./TE
