SPEAK ONLY KIND WORDS
They say that gossiping is one of the favorite past times of the Filipinos. For those who have worthwhile things to do, surely they will disagree, while for others who really have nothing better to do, probably they will agree. The best response I learned is, ”when you have nothing good to say, shut up.”
One who hurts people with bad talk separate good friends. Have you lately counted your truest friend who stays with you through good times and bad, but especially through bad times? I will tell you, it is better to have a few true friends than to have many untrustworthy friends. When I say “untrustworthy” friend, they are the ones you are supposed to trust to be there when you need them but actually do not. They are also the same friends you trusted to not to talk negatively about someone’s life but they do. And they are the same people you trusted to defend you when trouble comes but happened to be the same people who will eventually put you down at the end of the day. What about a “best friend” who turned out to be your worst nightmare?
Perhaps you have the so called “confidante” friend. A friend whom you talk about your problems and concerns; a bestfriend – a friend whom you consider your best among the bests to whom you tell your secrets and that even when distance separates you both, you feel you are with her/him; a spiritual friend is someone you consider your mentor on spiritual formation and who serves as your big brother or younger brother and who is part of your personal advisory council. How about the “Barkada” – a group of friends you hang out with. You may have the same interest on culture and music, dances and others, and many more aspects of friendships or else a combination of the above. The best among these aspects is where you can really find a friend you can really trust, both in words and in deeds, and who you can be yourself with, that even in bad times, you can count on her or him to be there for you and with both of you having no pretentions or hang ups.
When you do find the friend that you were meant to find, you are very lucky, for they will stay with you to the end. Once you find them, make sure you keep them. You do not speak negative stuff about each other no matter what. Speak only kind words and be true to your word when you mean something. On the other hand, true friends speak only the truth. So when you do speak that truth, make sure the receiving end will gladly accept it, for the essence of true friendship, when they find faults in each other, they do not hide this faults and when needed even if it hurts, you will tell the truth. Most of all, you only do good things for each other and to others. Count only the best thing about your friendships, but also, count the times of the best times when you are not together. It is to remind you that you are the best of friends, even if time and distance separate you from each other.
Remember this one from Proverbs, “He who goes talking to hurt people makes secrets known. So do not be with those who talk about others.” Thank God, I found my truest friends and I intend to keep them. How about you?/TE
