Explores the road to better health

Cystitis

Cystitis is the inflammation of the bladder produced principally by a bacterial infection, frequently E.coli which is normally found in the intestinal tract. This disease is more common in women.

The Symptoms are:

•The desire to go to the bathroom frequently, often with a sensation of pain.
•Itching, irritation and pain in the lower part of the bladder or urethra.
•The infection can ascend into the kidneys, infecting them, and can cause pain in the middle back.
•Many times urine contains blood or pus. In these cases a fever or chill can occur.
•When it occurs in men it must be treated immediately since it can cause serious consequences.

The principal causes are: infection of the vagina in women or in the urethra of the penis in men.

This illness is more frequent in women than in men because the urethra and vagina, as well as the anus, are closer together, and therefore the infection occurs more easily.

In other occasions cystitis is associated with sexually transmitted diseases like Chlamydia, which irritates and inflames the bladder and urethra, or goes down from the kidneys to the bladder.

Suggested treatment

•Meticulous daily hygiene
•Take natural antibiotics like bee propolis, garlic and aloe vera
•Drink a lot of water preferably with aloe and cranberry juice, since thi helps to detoxify the kidneys. In addition, cranberry, when it comes in contact with urine, acidifies the urine which helps to kill the bacteria.. The same is true with vitamin C, which acidifies the urine and helps to destroy the infection.
•In his book, “Complete Guide for Women’s Health”, Dr. Bruce Shepard, as well as other renowned specialists, recommends taking bilberry or cranberry with a lot of water to prevent cystitis.

Do not wait too long to go to the bathroom. Go when you need to.
Never leave a wet bathing suit on.

Urinate after having sexual relations.

Wear cotton undergarments instead of those of synthetic materials since the latter does not allow the body to breathe as easily, and heat as well as humidity help in the formation of bacterium.

Warning: If the cystitis is serious and lasts for a long time it can cause kidney infection. Consult your physician./TE
