THE GOOD LIFE

MEGS S. LUNN

Remembering Lew

Five years and counting. It has been five years ago after that devastating loss of a loved one. But it was also been almost five years that I enjoy and love life to the fullest, for this is what he wanted me to be.

What it takes to accept the fact of losing someone that you dearly love? Ah, it is about letting go and remembering only fine memories of that person. How? Every day of our lives, we see other members of the family whom he has humbly touched. Looking through their eyes, you see and feel their unconditional love to you. Another day, you see them together sharing happy moments and laughter. The following days, they tell you about what they remembered of him, the loss dearly beloved, Lew.

Expert said, saying his name by telling stories about him over and over again, remembering the past memories and the pain, too, and singing your song together once more, means you have let go. Indeed, it is true. Nowadays, we tend to compare the past to the present. My mother would say, “Oh, I remember Lew, he was cheerful and full of life; I remember him to be a real gentleman, a good provider and a disciplinarian; he brought laughter in this house…., etc, etc…” Then I would just smile. Mind you, it was my Mom who is the numbrt one.to disagree marrying my Lew. For whatever reason, let just keep it that way. It is now a happy thought that my Mom is also the number one fan of Lew until now. This is my only consolation as we move forward to a better life and a new beginning for what is left behind.

Presently, I don’t ask for another family life chapter, except the chapter of my mission. For the highest purpose in life is service to others. However, we can’t put period in what we say, for whatever comes, it’ll come. God has its purpose in anything that we wish for.

The memories linger on. It will be forever there somewhere in my heart. Lew was gone, but not forgotten./TE
