by: Joli Panganiban-Ilin

“My Teacher, My Hero” is the theme for this year`s World Teachers Day in which the elementary and primary school education of Buruanga, Aklan convened on October 5, 2010, to celebrate this momentous occasion.

This one-day activity commenced with a holy mass at St. Anthony de Padua church followed by a four-kilometer fun run from Malay-Buruanga boundary to Buruanga Sunset Park. A program was held which was highlighted with the presentation from the different schools. The teachers showcased their talents in jazz chants, singing, as well as their terpsichorean prowess. The Municipal Mayor Quezon F. Labindao graced the affair and praised the teachers in his inspirational message for their heroism, love and devotion to their profession. After partaking in the sumptuous lunch there was a volleyball event, parlor games and videoke challenge among the teachers. The affair was successfully spearheaded by Mr. Carlos D. Dumalaog, Principal of Buruanga Elementary School and In-Charge of the District.

It was indeed a day of fun and laughter for the teachers. How grateful are they that once a year, a special day is celebrated to give them the chance to unwind from the daily grind of nurturing the youths./TE
