KALIBO, Aklan – The province of Aklan held a launching of Garantisadong Pambata (GP) on October 11with “wow” events in the aim to inform the most number of mothers on the importance of having their children provided with vitamins and prophylactic interventions to prevent childhood diseases and to improve over-all health.
Garantisadong Pambata is a program of the Department of Health (DOH) assited by the Provincial Government through enhanced campaign on Child Health through strengthened education, promotion and implementation.
According to Dr. Emma Cortes, Provincial Health Officer II, the “WOW” factors which highlighted this year’s GP launching include the incorporation of a Children’s theme (Siga Ka Bata!) through a Children’s Party; engagement of the private sector to help the Provincial Health Office ensure sustainability of the programs; involvement of Day Care centers to ensure that children take center stage in the event; and embarking on the launching as an opportunity for the PHO to stress the importance of fortified foods such as the Pan de Lito, the freshly-baked bread of Bread and Butter fortified with vitamins and micronutrients.
During the launching at the Dr. Rafael S. Tumbokon Memorial Hospital, children five years old and below also availed of free DOH micronutrients.
Prior to the GP launching, the PHO held a Press Briefing on Smokehaus RestoBar to plan for the “Garantisadong Panalo Ka Kid” sa Kapihan Sa Aklan.
The Kapihan Sa Aklan was also held at Smokehaus on October 9.
At the Press Briefing, clusters from the Maternal, Newborn and Child Health Care and Nutrition of the PHO were also present.
Dr. Cortes said the GP activity is one of the programs of the province to realize the health system’s vision of zero maternal death and the reduction of infant mortality in the province.
