The treasure of Aklan is definitely unlimited. I am not speaking only of the natural resources we can harvest around us, but also the natural talent and skills of our people. Our celebrity for this week is unknown to many people in this province. He is just one of those unpretentious and unassuming human being. He created many beautiful designs for many people in this province and the trophies behind him shows what he have done in his 39 years of existence.
Rovil ‘Ovil’ Flores hailed from the town of Altavas. He is an AB English graduate of Garcia College. His interest in designing started when he was 17, where he created his first gown for Ms. Panay Gay Search. The contestant won the crown and the award for ‘Best Gown’.This was in 1990.
Since then, in his spare time he focus on creating designs for his friends and through the word of mouth he gathered his elite clientele who also recommended him to their friends.
In the last four years he was commissioned by the town of Nabas to design their float for the Kalibo Ati-Atihan Festival Competition. Last year’s Ati-atihan,Nabas was once again a winner.
He is involve in the supervisin
g of contestants in beauty contests; the likes of Lady Lyn Riva, one of the finalists in Ms. Philippines 2011. He also designed and made the costume of the Ms. Earth candidate from Antique.
His speciality is in making ‘banig’ gowns.
In the picture, his simple design on this gown was very effective. It is not easy to make a simple gown for a mishapen client and make her look chic and elegant. But Ovil does as you can see in this photo.
