Kalibo, Aklan- Pillars of broadcast and print media of the province took turn in paying tribute to William “Billy” Arguelles during the Necrological Services on Saturday that was held in his memory at the St. Jude Church Kalibo, Aklan.
Organized by the Aklan Press Club, Inc., the memorial tributes took place after the 2:00 PM Mass. Burial followed at the Milagrosa Cemetery.
William Arguelles, fondly called Billy by his family, friends, media colleagues and acquaintances, died in the evening of July 28, 2011 at the Saint Gabriel Hospital.
His sudden hospital confinement and death on July 28 shocked his media colleagues who are at the middle of the preparations for the 10th Induction Ceremonies of the Aklan Press Club, Inc. the following day, July, 29, 2011, of which Billy is the Treasurer.
Billy is also the Managing Director of the Aklan Media Forum, Director of the Federation of the Provincial Press Clubs of the Philippines and one of the organizers of the now institutionalized Kapihan sa Aklan whose personal contributions made the weekly Kapihan still existing up to the present.
Colleagues who paid tributes were: Mr. Odon S. Bandiola, Chairman of the Board of Directors, Aklan Press Club and Secretary to the Sangguniang Panlalawigan of Aklan; Melrose “Megs” Lunn, President, Aklan Press Club; Jerome Vega, RMN-DYKR Station Manager and KBP Aklan Chapter Chairman; Engr. Winston Carrillo, President, Aklan United Media Association and Mr. Ronald Allan Sison,President of the Federation of Provincial Press Clubs in the Philippines,Inc.
From Billy’s elders in the Aklan Media, eulogies were delivered by: Dr. Ambrosio R. Villorente, Past President Aklan Press Club; Atty. Ronquillo C. Tolentino, Past President, Aklan Press Club and former Vice Governor of Aklan; Juan P. Dayang, President, Publishers Association of the Philippines; and, Atty. Allen S. Quimpo, former Aklan Congressman,adviser of the Aklan Press Club and Director of the Aklan Media Forum.
Intimate thoughts on the life and death of Billy were shared by his close friend, Antonio Entrata and daughter, Merreluv Arguelles.
Son Dustin Regile Arguelles delivered the Committal/ Response on behalf of the family./TE
