KALIBO, Aklan, July 30 (PIA) — Media practitioners in Aklan recently underwent training on writing news stories that could touch people’s lives.
The training, held at the Governor Corazon Cabagnot Tourism and Training Center was spearheaded by the Provincial Health Office (PHO) with the technical assistance of the Health Promotion and Communication Project (HealthPro) of USAID in partnership with Paibare Legacy Corps.
More than 20 print and broadcast media practitioners from Aklan attended the training.
Discussions on reporting health issues included stories about Aklan’s local health workers’ experiences—working late at night, their fears, misgivings and fulfillment in saving lives as well as lessons learned.
The participants were then asked to write an article based on these stories. A fellowship grant will be given to selected writers.
Catindig said 30 stories will be selected from the Philippines.
“The success of a story is measured by how it transformed the person who read it,” Catindig said.

KALIBO, Aklan - The Philippine Chamber of Commerce and Industry-Kalibo (PCCI-Kalibo) opposes the proposed operation of casino in Boracay Island.
Jose Mari Aldecoa, PCCI-Kalibo president, said that majority of the local chamber officer voted against the operation of casino in the island.
On Saturday, the Catholic Church will lead a multi-sectoral rally in Boracay to press their opposition to the casino operations.
“We consider casino as anti-business, thus we reject it,” said Aldecoa.
The chamber used the Aklan Investment and Incentives Code as legal basis for their opposition.
“Chapter 5, Section 12 of the code states that excluded in the incentives code are games/gambling. This may not be an outright rejection but definitely it is not something to be encouraged,” said Aldecoa.
Guidon dela Cruz, former PCCI regional governor, said that it is better for the investors to have the casino operated somewhere else in the province of Aklan except in Boracay Island.(PNA)/TE
