ILOILO CITY – The Western Visayas Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (DRRMC) has urged the Malay municipal government to have its own DRRMC office manned by trained personnel on disaster response.
DRRMC chair Rosario T. Cabrera, who is also the regional director of the Office of Civil Defense (OCD), said this proposal was taken up over the weekend with Malay Municipal Mayor John Yap, who seemed to be responsive about it, during a two-day training held in Casa Pilar in Boracay, Malay, Aklan.
Cabrera said it is important for Malay to have its own DRRMC office as it has the jurisdiction over Boracay island, being considered as a premier tourism area in the country.
Cabrera said the training was attended by the Boracay resort owners and managers and the local officials and responders in Malay to help them have more capabilities during disasters in the resort island.
Likewise, it is intended to intensify their campaign on the new law that reorganized the DRRMC. (PNA)/TE
