Some years ago, an American cargo plane crashed into the jungle in a remote part of Mindanao. The pilot and the co-pilot both survived, sustaining only the minor cuts and bruises. Fortunately there were no other passengers on board, but the airplane itself it was a total wreck.
The immediate concern of the two survivors was where to find food, so they agreed that the best thing to do was for each of them to go off in different directions to see what they could find to eat.
After half an hour both men returned what they had found. The captain had found a bag of potatoes which had fallen from the plane, and which was the most certainly a useful find. All that the co-pilot could find was a Filipino who had been wondering alone the forest.
“That decides it”, said the captain. “We will have Filipino with fried potatoes.”
With their main focus being their own survival, the two of them wasted no time in making a fire on which to cook their meal. They then proceed to make a spit out of bamboo on which to suspend the unfortunate Filipino above the fire. Underneath this and on the top of the fire they placed a pan containing the potatoes. Their idea was that the Filipino began to cook, fat would drip down from him into the pan, allowing the potatoes to be fried at the same time.
“Now”, said the captain to the co-pilot, “I will go and get some water while you stay here to prepare the meal. All you have to do is to turn the spit. The most important thing is that you turn the spit slowly so that the Filipino will be cooked evenly all over.”
He showed the co-pilot how to do this, again stressing that the spit should be turned slowly in order to ensure that the cooking was even. He then went off to look for water.
When the captain returned some twenty minutes later, he was horrified to find that the co-pilot was turning the spit as fast as he possibly could.
“Why are you turning the spit so quickly?” he asked. “I told that you must turn the spit very slowly.”
“I tried that”, said the co-pilot, “but every time the Filipino passed by the pan he was stealing the potatoes!”/TE
WIT AND WISDOM
There are two theories to arguing with women. Neither one works….
It is far more impressive with others discover your good qualities without your help.
Before your criticized someone, you should walk a mile away and you have their shoes.
The quickest way to double your money is to fold it in half and put it back in your pocket.
If you lend someone $20 and never see that person again, it was probably worth it.
The journey of a thousand miles begins with a broken fan belt and a leaky tire.
